What is IMAGO?
IMAGO is a theological and ministry development project created by Power to Change – Students (P2C). The mission of IMAGO is to help a generation of young people understand, live, and communicate the gospel in a biblical, embodied, and culturally relevant way by addressing the question “What does it mean to be human?” The word IMAGO is taken from the latin “Imago Dei” or “image of God” which first appears in Genesis when God makes humanity in his image and calls human beings to rule over creation and mediate his presence in the world.
As P2C celebrates 50 years of ministry in Canada, we recognize that Canadian culture and the context of our ministry on university campuses has changed radically over the past several decades. Today’s students are in the midst of significant cultural and worldview shifts which are accompanied by new set of values, assumptions, and questions and are contributing a crisis of identity. With this in mind, the hope of IMAGO is to help students discover Jesus by connecting the gospel to conversations about human identity, purpose, and destiny that students are already having in light of major social issues such as gender, sexuality, race, and technological development.
WHAT's MY ROLE?
I am co-leading IMAGO over the course of the next two-years by overseeing a team of P2C staff from across Canada as we investigate the question “What does it mean to be human?” Through a process of prayer, research, and consultation I will be responsible to first help lead this team write a theological framework for understanding what it means to be human from a biblical perspective. With this framework as a guide, our task will then be to develop new learning experiences for P2C staff and students as well as creative approaches to evangelism that incorporate themes of human identity into conversations about Jesus and the gospel.
How can YOu be involved?
I am deeply aware of my need for the Holy Spirit’s empowerment as I step into this role. With this in mind, please pray that God would fill me and the other members of my team with a spirit of wisdom, discernment, and clarity as we wade into some of the most challenging issues facing the Church today. Pray that we would be united in our thinking and the Holy Spirit would guide us as we research, write, and develop resources that will help students share the gospel and discover Jesus.
As a staff member of Power to Change – Students, I am required to raise 100% of the funds needed to provide for my salary, training costs, and other ministry expenses. This means that I am relying entirely on God to bring together a group of financial partners that will make my ministry possible. I would be honoured if you would consider partnering with me through a monthly, annual or one-time contribution. All donations are tax-refundable and can be made online here. Please contact me if you prefer to give by cash or cheque.
