Denmark: The New Frontier!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Happy New Year! I hope that the first few weeks of 2017 find you well. As I reflect on 2016, I am amazed to consider the faithfulness of our God through seasons of both great joy and great heartache in my own life. In the midst of a world broken by sin, “this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22–23). I pray that whether 2016 was a year of sorrow or rejoicing, you will know with great confidence that as we step into 2017 Jesus himself has promised to be with us always (Matt 28:20). May this be a year in which we experience the presence and power of Christ in our lives unlike ever before!

For the past five years, many of you have partnered with me as I have travelled to the United Kingdom with Power to Change (P2C) to share the gospel on university campuses and build up local campus ministries in Britain. Throughout this process, the goal has been to reach a day when these British campuses are indigenously led, self-sustaining, and globally sending. It gives me great joy to let you know that this goal has been realized! ‘Student Life’ (the British version of P2C) is now operating on campuses throughout the UK, led by British staff and students. Last year, they sent students on mission to Russia, Portugal, and Malta! Join me in praising the Lord for his faithfulness!

Making Jesus Known in Denmark

Now that our UK partnership has reached maturity, we are eager to set our face towards a new mission field. I am excited to share with you that I have been extended an opportunity to join P2C in serving in Denmark this February. Denmark is one of the most prosperous countries in Europe and Danes consistently top surveys as the happiest people in the world. At the same time, the vast majority of people have turned away from God and very few Danes would claim a vital relationship with Jesus or even know someone who does.

Our vision is to “Make Jesus Known.” Even in the midst of wealth and prosperity, the need for the gospel is the same. The main goal of our mission trip is to invite students into a relationship with Jesus through campus evangelism. We will also be connecting with local Christians and encouraging them to build up a local ministry that can reach Copenhagen and all of Denmark with the gospel. I will be serving as an intern during my time in Denmark and will be responsible to for leading a small group of students in outreach throughout the week.

Prayer is the Work!

My team and I ask that you labour with us in prayer as we prepare for this mission. Here are some specific ways you can pray:

  1. That God would soften the hearts of students in Denmark to receive the gospel

  2. That the Holy Spirit would empower myself and other students on this trip to be bold witnesses

  3. That the Lord would lead us to Christian students and use us to encourage them in building the local ministry

  4. That God would prepare my heart to lead the other students on this trip

Be sure to subscribe to my blog to receive updates on our preparation for this trip and all that Lord does in Denmark!

Yours in fulfilling the Great Commission,

Lucas
